Full Speed Ahead As We Enter Fall

Buoyed by GDP being stronger than expected and business confidence at historically high levels in both the manufacturing and service sectors, we are planning a full slate of programs for best practice and knowledge sharing as well as thought leadership. Naturally, behind the scenes, our policy shaping work continues as well.

In strict compliance with guidance from the Public Health Agency of Sweden (Folkhälsomyndigheten), we are exploring limited attendance, in-person programs starting with the American & British Chambers’ Annual Golf Tournament at Djursholms Golf Club on September 13th.

Recognizing that the breadth and depth of our network is our strength and that it is necessarily spread throughout Sweden and across the Atlantic, we have launched a new virtual platform for AmCham Sweden members. This new research-backed platform is called Givitas and it is used by leading companies and academic institutions, including many of our members and Fortune 500 companies.

Our Givitas platform makes it incredibly fast and easy for AmCham members to exchange help, resources, advice, introductions, connections, and more with other members across our network of business professionals while creating a repository of shared knowledge. We hosted our first virtual session with the new platform last month and will be sending members more details about how to sign up over the coming weeks.

On the transatlantic trade policy front, we are eagerly awaiting the launch at the end of this month of the bilateral U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), which will give officials on both sides of the Atlantic a forum to ensure their respective efforts to regulate emerging technologies are aligned and to set out joint standards. This platform could also be used, when necessary, to push back against European digital policies that might discriminate against American companies. In the months ahead we will be tracking the progress of the TTC  as it commences its work to set new global standards for emerging technology; finding ways for the U.S. and the EU to collaborate on cutting edge research and development; solving the global semiconductor shortage; and more.

We continue to field inquiries from members and non-members alike seeking guidance in addressing critical business travel to and from Sweden and the U.S. Cognizant that we are still in the midst of a pandemic we continue to share member concerns about these delays with our interlocutors with both the Swedish and U.S. governments.

As we announced before the summer, our Communications Working Committee is incorporating the findings from the 2021 Brand America Barometer, which surveyed what people in Sweden associate with the American brand, into programs this fall. Keep an eye on the AmCham calendar, and as we look to the end of the pandemic, consider co-working with us at United Spaces when it is time to go back to the office.

Thank you for your support.

Stay well,
Peter
